Awesome, we want this one. Talk about a cool looking knife. But not just to look at, this beauty is a real workhorse, can’t wait to see your reviews here!

Please comment, as we haven’t received one yet.

The Spyderco 2010 Para-Military2 tactical folding knife has several changes over the classic version. The G-10 handle is narrowed at the end improving the ergonomics. The handle and blade have been profiled thinner; removing uncomfortable angles when in the closed position. It features a Compression Lock and an ambidextrous-friendly four way clip which carries tip-up/tip-down, left/right-hand and rests deeper in a pocket. They kept the same high-performance CPM-S30V full flat-ground blade but we’ve also lengthened the blade’s tip and added additional surface jimping to both the spine and finger choil. Implementation of a new Bushing Pivot System generates fluid action and more consistent manufacturing tolerances. Larger lanyard gives more options for carry.

Refinements to overall construction may not be drastic or even visible to the eye but from the G-10 textured handle to the CPM-S30V steel full flat black blade, everything is sharper, smoother and guaranteed to provide performance and user comfort.

We found this over at KnifeCenter – Visit them for more details, specs. & hopefully reviews!

Custom knifemaker Ed Schempp has a talent for co-mingling indigenous and ethnic cutlery styles with American knifemaking methods. His Eastern influenced Persian folder has an undeniably ethnic upswept blade profile with a modern black G-10 handle. Finger indents on the handle’s underside situate the hand in a way that translates into comfort and cutting control. The Persian blade’s full-curved belly ends in a graceful upswept tip offering both Middle-Eastern style and cutting performance. Made from high-performance VG-10 steel (flat-ground), a prominent hump above the Spyderco Round Hole creates a leveraging platform welcoming the thumb. The curved steel pocket clip is designed for right-hand, tip-facing-upward pocket carry. The Persian features a David Boye Dent removed from the back lock’s release, inhibiting inadvertent disengagement. Balance, plus first-class fit and finish, makes this model truly worthy of bearing Ed Schempp’s and Spyderco’s name.

Today, we are looking at the Spyderco P’Kal, it’s an interesting design & seems to be getting good reviews.

In the Philippine Visayan dialect, the literal translation of the word Pikal means to rip. In the U.S. the term Pikal remains relatively new but a company called Shivworks is making headway in its introduction to the American market. Its English definition is twofold: It is a rising martial arts genre and the name of a Spyderco knife designed to accompany this art form. As a self-defense platform, Pikal is carried out holding a knife in reverse grip with the sharpened edge facing inward toward the user. Pikal’s objective is not flowing drills with your opponent but rapidly and effectively striking and surprising.

The Spyderco C103 P’Kal, offers features specific to this activity but these same features also translate well for everyday carry. The CPM S30V PlainEdge blade curves to a point. When held with the tip facing downward it feels natural and comfortable making pulling, downward cuts.

Protruding from the top of the blade’s spine is a removable Emerson Opening feature. The device popularized and patented by Ernest Emerson of Emerson Knives, functions by catching the back of a pant’s pocket when drawing the knife, opening blade in the same motion. Spyderco’s P’Kal is designed for reverse grip use with a formidable choil on top of the handle that holds the little finger when gripping, affording better dexterity and control.

Spyderco’s patented Ball Bearing Lock® sits above and behind the blade. The ball bearing component is housed in a plastic cover that’s accessible for both left and right hand opening. P’Kal clips in a pocket with a steel wire clip and carries tip-up. A Spyderco P’Kal training version is also available and highly recommended. This one is also made in the USA.

C.Q.I. – Constant Quality Improvement is a process Spyderco uses to evaluate and refine longstanding established knife models. Sometime C.Q.I. changes are large and noticeable, sometimes they’re smaller refinements. Recently we applied C.Q.I. to the classic Dragonfly creating a new Dragonfly 2. The Dragonfly 2 upgrades some notable features over the classic while keeping the important basics.

Features carrying-over to the new version are the tried and tested mid-sized blade and ergonomic handle along with a front-finger choil and spine cusp. Also staying int he blade-to-handle geometry and leveraging points which make the Dragonfly cut and feel like a much larger knife when in the hand.

New refinements include: the addition of a left/right tip-up wire clip, patented Bi-Directional Texturing on the handle, choil and spine jimping and screw together handle construction. The blade is still premium VG-10, now in a high-performance flat-grind.

The position of the enlarged Spyderco Round Opening Hole in relation to the pivot leads to smooth oepning and the FRN (fiberglass reinforce nylon) handle fits the hand ergonomically with a series of grip angles and leveraging spots.

We were surprised to see Spyderco release the Bushcraft Hunting Knife! It’s not something that you would expect from Spyderco, but it looks like they gave it that Spyderco touch & what a beauty this knife is! As always we would love to hear reviews on this knife.

Here is a great YouTube video of the Spyderco Bushcraft being demostrated at the SHOT Show 2011 by a Spyderco rep. – thanks to 2brothersadventures

Bushcraft is a tradition as much as a sport. It follows a regime of survival skills derived originally from Bushmen of the southern hemisphere. It’s mainstreamed today by UK resident Ray Mears through his televised programs outlining how to thrive and survive with only a knife both skillfully and comfortably in nature.

Spyderco’s version of a Bushcraft knife results from a three-fold collaboration between Tactical Bushcrafter Chris Claycombe, a Bushcraft website in the UK and Spyderco designers.

Knives used in the practice of Bushcraft have specific parameters such as possessing blades between 4-6 inches. Spyderco’s is typical of the genre with a 4-inch blade (no handguard) that’s fully-tanged. The blade is a Scandinavian or Scandi grind. Scandi edges have a single bevel grind, wide and flat that cuts with strength and is able to withstand twisting and hacking. The blade is made from O-1 tool steel. Bushcrafters generally don’t seek the characteristics of stainless over the performance of high-carbon edge retention, and is why traditional Bushcraft knives are produced using tool steel for their blades. O-1’s high carbon content holds a long-term edge but also sharpens easily when laying on a new edge.

The black G-10 handle is contoured for comfort with a backup lanyard hole and the knife carries in a leather sheath. It is overall blueprinted for performing wilderness chores such as slicing, chopping, whittling and game processing all done in traditional Bushcraft style.
