A cornerstone in Spyderco’s Save and Serve line up, the Military Model came about after someone asked Spyderco’s owner Sal Glesser, “If your son were going into the military what folding knife would you send him with?” For certain, it had to meet the requirements of a high-performance, light-weight folder designed for hard use.

Military Model with U.S. Army digital camo pattern G-10 handle.

Someone asked Spyderco’s chief designer “if your son or daughter deployed, what knife would you send with them?” That question raised three powerful considerations: (1. The blade had to have relentless cutting performance and edge life. (2. It had to be lightweight, ergonomically practical. (3. For field-use it needed to be manufactured to be as indestructible and failsafe as humanly possible.

The resulting Military Model, or “Millie” meets these considerations by pairing a CMP-S30V stainless blade with a slim G-10 handle designed to feel like a natural extension of the hand. The open constructed handle makes cleaning/maintenance as simple as blowing or flushing out debris and dirt.

Since the steel is the spirit of the knife, CPM-S30V with almost 2% carbon seemed the logical choice for the blade given its reputation for long-term edge retention and rust resistance. The ‘Millie’ has a modified clip-point blade laser cut with a 14 mm Spyderco Round Hole for quick deployment and for use with gloves. Texturing above the hole hold the thumb in contact with the blade’s spine during cutting for confident control over the sharpened edge. The handle scales are G-10 with the lock’s liner nested (inlayed) directly into the scale, pumping up lock strength without the addition of bulky liners. Spacers between the scales create a gap running the handle’s full length exposing the inside workings for inspection and cleaning. The handle flares slightly at the front end creating a finger choil and at the butt end, which keeps the knife from slipping forward or backward in the hand while sawing or making tough or aggressive cuts. A contoured black metal clip is set for right-hand tip-down carry.

Field-ready, uncomplicated, manufactured to exacting standards and Made in Golden, Colorado U.S.A. Earth

Please note that the digital pattern will vary on each knife and that no two knives (or sides of each knife) will be the same.

One look at this one & we need to get one, looking forward to playing with the Spyderco Balance, what a cool looking knife.

Balance is a state of equilibrium or equal distribution. In our case it’s an Ed Schempp folder that is symmetrical on each end when closed. Odd looks aside, when in the hand it’s ergonomically proportional and a natural fit. The VG-10 blade rears up in a radical curve with a deep finger choil. When the index finger sits in the choil, the blade feels like an extension of your hand. The enlarged Spyderco Round Hole is dead center on the blade when closed and perfectly off-centered when open, positioning the thumb for smooth one-hand use. Carbon fiber handle. Screw together construction. Four way, left/right, tip-up/tip-down hourglass stainless clip. Piped lanyard. Symphonic fit and finish.

The Fred Perrin PPT is the latest EDC Knife released from Spyderco. With it’s unique design, it’s sure to be a popular knife, look forward to the reviews.

Fred Perrin doesn’t sit still, figuratively or physically. He’s perpetually in motion, like a bullet-train picking up speed, as evidenced by his resume. Fred has been a world-vetted tae kwon do and stick-fighting champion, a French Army Commando, a professional writer, a martial arts instructor and one of France’s most recognized professional knifemakers and he’s only in his forties. The latest product of his alliance with Spyderco is the Perrin PPT folder. P.P.T. refers to folder’s three designers; Fred Perrin, Philippe Perotti and Sacha Thiel. The lock is a crossbreed, blending elements of both Michael Walker’s LinerLock and Chris Reeve’s Reeve Integral Lock. The lock functions as a frame-lock but a G-10 scale overlaying the lock looks very LinerLockish. The black G-10 handle scales are milled with corrugated creases for skid-free and ergonomic handling. Its CPM-S30V steel blade is a modified-Wharncliffe profile with a finger choil, spine jimping and a tapered swedge. Screw together construction. Left/right deep-carry pocket clip and lanyard hole open the door for endless attachment options.

Not just any old knife, but the B.W. Baker Peasant Knife. Such an old concept that it’s new; so new that it’s old. B.W. Baker, Master Cutler, felt that the idea of creating his latest knife range was calling to him from the past. Using old fashioned methods and relying on the oldest low-tech methods, Svord proudly present their Peasant Knife. What does it do? Well, it cuts. Sure, there are knives around today that sprout scissors, sawblades, an entire motor mechanic’s tool kit, laser beams and micro cell phones. Such knives have lost the very reason for their existence – that’s high-tech for you. If you want a knife, a knife to cut things with, the Svord Peasant Knife is for you.

When Spyderco introduced the Military Model years ago it gathered fans like the Pied Piper. Critics claimed it too big, too expensive and more knife than the average user needed. Likewise, fans heralded the knife’s big performance attributes and snapped them up, firmly positioning the Military Model as one of Spyderco’s top all-time sellers. Carrying a large folder for many is simply a non-issue. For others in our sensitive PC world, smaller equates to friendlier, less shocking, and in some place just plain legal. We arrive back at the question knifemakers ask everyday, “How do we satisfy both worlds and make a smaller knife that acts, cuts and performs like a large knife?”

Welcome the Para-Military, a two-thirds sized version of the Military Model. Its flat-ground S30V blade stretches a non-eyebrow raising 3-3/32″ (81mm) long and has a carbon level of 1.45% with the addition of vanadium and nitrogen for over-the-top edge retention. Coated in black, the blade is subdued and non-reflective. The Spyderco Round Hole is generously sized at 14mm for opening the knife blade with gloved (or large) hands. Its black G-10 handle shuns chemicals and temperature fluctuations and expands at the butt-end keeping the hand from slipping off the handle while making hard pulling cuts. The package is topped off with a nested Compression Lock making the ultimate mid-sized survival knife designed to level trees, carve tent stakes and never generate a second glance

Laws. Whether necessary, good or just nutty, they’re intended to establish order and ward-off chaos. When our government and society implement rules we do our best to live within their parameters. As an example, many U.S. metropolitan cities draw the line for carrying pocketknives in public to those with blades two inches in length or under. Welcome to Chicago! If I were a Chicagoan and carried a pocketknife regularly, I might be inclined (as a law abiding citizen) to carry a tool falling under this city’s restriction. The Spyderco C130 Chicago is just that. Two inches of flat ground CPM-S30V blade urbanely outfitted with a carbon fiber handle scales and Michael Walker LinerLock. The carbon fiber handle is shaped and sized ergonomically with full-length skeletonized liners tucked inside for strength without bulk or weight. Its leaf-like shaped blade effectively cuts everything across the board (including the board) from significant strenuous cuts like carpet and poly rope to something as innocuous as fingernail cleaning or scraping tape off of glass. A deep pocket clip burrows the knife down into a pant’s pocket with the tip facing up and screws on both sides of the handle for left/right-hand positioning. This one is for Chicagoans or anyone looking for a city/suit knife.

This knife is currently available in limited quantites, you can find more details & 11 real customer reviews at Knifecenter
